Dimple Creation

In the medical arena, dimples and cleft chin are said to be congenital defects. But for a person born with either of them, on the contrary, is in fact blessed. These so called defects become an accessory to his or her face (rather than a liability), making a woman look more attractive and appealing and a man look more masculine.

“You can have one or pair of dimple done on your face. Some patients would ask for a pair of dimple, others want only one. Choice is still up to you, but I’ll help you decide which will suit you best,” says Dr. Firmalino.

Consultation
Before you go ahead with the surgery, the surgeon will initially evaluate your suitability for dimple construction. If you are qualified, he will discuss to you in detail the procedure including its likely outcomes, risks and complications, the type of anaesthesia he will use. He will also give you instructions on how to prepare for your surgery to post surgery care, including surgery cost, among others.

Procedure
As Dr. Firmalino describes it, dimple creation is a simple surgical procedure done in the clinic under local anaesthesia on an outpatient basis, which only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to finish. A surgical knot is tied which will result in dimpling of the skin without smiling. Dr. Firmalino utilizes dissolvable sutures so you don’t need to go back to the clinic for its removal.  A surgical knot is tied, which in turn will result in dimpling of the skin even without smiling. After the surgery, a small bandage will be put on the operated area.

Post Surgery
You may experience slight discomfort a few hours after the anaesthesia wears off and there will be minimal swelling so it is important that you take the medications prescribed to you to control whatever discomfort you feel and avoid complications. Dr. Firmalino will also ask you to do regular mouth rinsing with oral antiseptic solution or chlorhexidine solution. You can return to work or school the next day following your surgery, but avoid engaging in physical activities such as contact sports which can injure the operated area.

Post Surgery Recovery
After one or two weeks when the suture is absorbed, you will notice that the skin or operated area will flatten out and the so-called internal scarring which takes place will connect the muscle to the skin creating a dimple when you smile.  Healing period is up to 10 days. Result can be seen after a month.

Possible risks and complications
This procedure doesn’t involve extensive incision, so you can expect reduced risks of infection and complications, as well as less pain and discomfort.
